Melanie Sautereau “All About Poses & Animations”

2010-11-22

[12:00:41] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Hello everyone and welcome to today’s workshop. This workshop will be in chat, so no voice needed
[12:01:01] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Today we will talk about Poses. Also called as animations. There are a lot of animations to use in Second Life, but for this workshop we will only talk about poses you should and shouldn’t use on the runway.
[12:01:14] Melanie Sautereau shouts: What are animations?
[12:01:23] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Animations are just files, whose function it is to cause the avatar to move in a certain way.
[12:01:36] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Second Life animations are files created in “Biovision” format, a common format used for animations outside of SL as well as in SL.
[12:01:58] Melanie Sautereau shouts: An animation creator uses a computer program to create these files and then uploads them to SL. We can’t create animations directly in SL.
[12:02:18] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Poser and Blender are a couple of full featured programs to create animations. A free animation creator is QAvimator, which can be downloaded at qavimator.com.
[12:02:32] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Let me tell you that it’s very hard to create poses. It’s even harder to create a Walk. It needs a lot of time and patience. So I really respect people who are able to create poses and walks for us. We all should.
[12:02:52] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Of course the meaning of animations is much more detailed, but that’s not important to know if you’re not going to create your own animations.
[12:03:08] Melanie Sautereau shouts: I’m sure all of you have watched a Fashion Show in RL once. Models in RL are trained to look good on the runway, to sell the garments of a certain designer in a best way possible. Selecting the right poses as a model is a must.
[12:03:27] Melanie Sautereau shouts: For example, if a model showcases a beautiful set of lingerie, she has to choose sexy but still elegant poses. And not some wild pose for a casual outfit or something.
[12:03:46] Melanie Sautereau shouts: It’s actually the same in SL. When you’re going to walk on the runway, you have to select your poses very carefully and you have to remember the designers vision of his/hers collection.
[12:04:05] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Poses communicate our attitude, status, level of confidence and character. Pretty much everything that words can not.
[12:04:31] You: Hi everyone 🙂
[12:04:31] Lulu Breuer shouts: Hi everyone 🙂
[12:04:38] You: Ok I will tell you a little about the types of poses
[12:04:38] Lulu Breuer shouts: Ok I will tell you a little about the types of poses
[12:04:49] You: There are two main categories of poses:
[12:04:49] Lulu Breuer shouts: There are two main categories of poses:
[12:04:57] You: A. Static
B. Animated
[12:04:57] Lulu Breuer shouts: A. Static
B. Animated
[12:05:06] You: Static poses are, as the name implies, single non-animated poses.
[12:05:06] Lulu Breuer shouts: Static poses are, as the name implies, single non-animated poses.
[12:05:18] You: Animated poses are composed of several poses and a time-line that cause your avatar to move continuously
[12:05:18] Lulu Breuer shouts: Animated poses are composed of several poses and a time-line that cause your avatar to move continuously
[12:05:30] You: Animated poses are used in AO (animation overrides) and are fine for everyday use but should not be used on the runway.
[12:05:30] Lulu Breuer shouts: Animated poses are used in AO (animation overrides) and are fine for everyday use but should not be used on the runway.
[12:05:41] You: Static poses are the ones that are used on the runway, however all static poses are not acceptable.
[12:05:41] Lulu Breuer shouts: Static poses are the ones that are used on the runway, however all static poses are not acceptable.
[12:06:02] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Thank you Lulu 🙂
[12:06:14] Melanie Sautereau shouts: The first very important thing for selecting poses is the “transition time”. Like the priority, the transition times are decided by the animation creator when she/he uploads the animation file into SL. It’s not anything that we as consumers can control.
[12:06:37] Melanie Sautereau shouts: it’s very important for runway poses to have a longer transition time. That means the 2nd pose takes over the 1st pose very smoothly and easily. Just like in RL.
[12:06:53] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So static poses that snap you into place are a big DON’T on the runway. Let me show you what I mean by a static pose.
[12:07:08] You decline BOSLradio.com – Just listen ! , The Renaissance Galleria (154, from A group member named labella Farella.
[12:07:18] Rhonda Pennell: *shrieks!
[12:07:22] You: hehe
[12:07:22] Lulu Breuer shouts: hehe
[12:07:27] Melanie Sautereau shouts: see, not very elegant LOL. Please do not EVER use these kind of poses while you are on the runway.
[12:07:29] Wipster Baxter: lol
[12:07:52] Melanie Sautereau shouts: gawd.. i remember i once used these poses when i first started modeling..
[12:07:58] You decline BOSLradio.com – Just listen ! , The Renaissance Galleria (154, from A group member named labella Farella.
[12:08:04] Melanie Sautereau shouts: everybody makes this mistake if you dont know about these things
[12:08:13] You: oopies
[12:08:14] Lulu Breuer shouts: oopies
[12:08:14] Melanie Sautereau shouts: so remember, this pose for example is a big NO NO 😛
[12:08:27] Wipster Baxter: love the tip toes LOL
[12:08:38] Melanie Sautereau shouts: haha yes, sexy huh 😛
[12:08:39] Rhonda Pennell: ballet, anyone?:)
[12:08:41] Mia McFarland: Hello everyone
[12:08:43] Wipster Baxter: ╠╣A ╠╣A ╠╣A ╠╣A
[12:08:46] You: hehe
[12:08:46] Lulu Breuer shouts: hehe
[12:08:48] Wipster Baxter: hi Mia
[12:08:50] Melanie Sautereau: Hi mia, welcome 🙂
[12:08:53] Rhonda Pennell: *waves to Mia:)
[12:08:54] Melanie Sautereau shouts: For the runway you always want poses with a long enough transition time to make the movement look graceful.
[12:09:19] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Here are a few examples: (dont mind the prims going into my body or something, its about poses for today :))
[12:09:36] Melanie Sautereau shouts: this is my first pose
[12:09:45] Melanie Sautereau shouts: and i move slightly into this pose…..
[12:09:59] Melanie Sautereau shouts: see the difference?
[12:10:04] Rhonda Pennell: oh yes
[12:10:07] You decline Outrageous Glamour INC from A group member named Scarlett Loxingly.
[12:10:07] Felicia Ibanez: yes
[12:10:10] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok, another example
[12:10:14] Felicia Ibanez: very smooth
[12:10:25] Melanie Sautereau shouts: exactly felicia
[12:10:32] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok 1st pose… and now i go into 2nd pose….
[12:10:47] Melanie Sautereau shouts: See how smooth the 2nd pose take over the 1st pose? It looks so much more natural and realistic.
[12:10:54] Felicia Ibanez: yes
[12:10:57] Melanie Sautereau shouts: RL models also don’t swing their arms around just like that, it also goes very smooth. It’s very important to remember this.
[12:11:17] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok, Next issue is priority
[12:11:29] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Each animation in SL is assigned a priority ranging from 0 – 4. Generally, animations of higher priority override those of lower priority.
[12:11:44] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So if you have two standing animations playing at once and one is priority 2 and the other is priority 4, only the priority 4 animation will be seen.
[12:11:58] Felicia Ibanez: how do you know the priority?
[12:11:59] Melanie Sautereau shouts: If two animations of the same priority are playing, the latest one to be started will over ride the earlier one.
[12:12:09] Melanie Sautereau shouts: im going to explain you 🙂
[12:12:20] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So when you buy an animation/pose, you have to make sure the pose is priority 4.
[12:12:34] Melanie Sautereau shouts: You can check the pose its priority by pressing CTRL-ALT-D to activate the Advanced Menu.
[12:12:41] Rhonda Pennell: fortunately, most of them are
[12:12:53] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Click on “Advanced”, then on “Character” – “Animation Information”.
[12:13:01] Melanie Sautereau: thats right Rho.. 🙂
[12:13:10] Melanie Sautereau shouts: This brings up a display on your screen that shows all the animations youre currently using.
[12:13:16] Rhonda Pennell: brilliant!
[12:13:24] Melanie Sautereau shouts: if you like, you can try that now.. you will see a menu will appear above your head
[12:13:44] Melanie Sautereau shouts: It’s very important that the number next to “stand” is number 4, which means it’s the highest priority.
[12:14:09] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So a general rule when buying runway poses is to look for poses that are priority 4 so they will override all others of lower priority.
[12:14:37] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Use the Animation Information display that we discussed to help you with that. Just stand on the posestand before you buy a certain pose, and bring up the menu and you will see
[12:14:54] Melanie Sautereau shouts: but like rhonda said.. most poses are priority 4.. but always check when you find a new store 🙂
[12:15:06] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Standing animation that are meant to be used in AO’s are often of lower priority to allow the typing animation to play through. They don’t work well as runway poses.
[12:15:14] You: The one exception is your default stand, which ideally would be priority 3
[12:15:14] Lulu Breuer shouts: The one exception is your default stand, which ideally would be priority 3
[12:15:29] Melanie Sautereau shouts: thats right Lulu 🙂
[12:15:44] Melanie Sautereau shouts: A Last rule when buying runway poses is to pay attention to whether or not the pose locks the head in place or leaves it free to move.
[12:15:58] Wipster Baxter: oh yes 🙂
[12:16:00] Melanie Sautereau shouts: When walking on the runway it’s very important to have the head locked!
[12:16:06] Melanie Sautereau: 😉
[12:16:08] Rhonda Pennell: oh so true!
[12:16:16] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Remember however that the head, if free to move, will move in response to moving the mouse.
[12:16:32] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So, if you’re on the runway and you are using the mouse to start and stop you poses, the avatar will appear to be looking all around as you are doing that.
[12:16:47] Melanie Sautereau shouts: That will look very unprofessional. I’ve seen some very accomplished models not pay attention to that.
[12:17:20] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Let me show you what I mean. I’m playing a priority 4 walking animation, but it doesnt locks the head. If I move my mouse, my head will move into the same direction.
[12:17:29] Melanie Sautereau: let me walk of the stage to have more room to show you 🙂
[12:17:45] Melanie Sautereau shouts: is everybod cammed on me?
[12:17:53] Felicia Ibanez: yes
[12:17:56] Rhonda Pennell: yes Ma’am
[12:18:04] Melanie Sautereau shouts: hehe okay.. watch my head 😛
[12:18:43] Melanie Sautereau shouts: did you all see that?
[12:18:47] Storm Munforth: yes
[12:18:47] Rhonda Pennell: yes
[12:18:49] Felicia Ibanez: yes
[12:18:51] Leena Bianco: yes
[12:18:52] Wipster Baxter: yup
[12:18:57] Storm Munforth: did you find it?
[12:19:01] Priscila Metaller: yes
[12:19:01] Rhonda Pennell: *laughs
[12:19:02] Storm Munforth grins
[12:19:04] Ric Lyle: yes
[12:19:09] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i looked stupid
[12:19:10] Rhonda Pennell: I was thinking the same thing Storm:)
[12:19:19] Melanie Sautereau shouts: haahaha storm
[12:19:25] You: hehe
[12:19:25] Lulu Breuer shouts: hehe
[12:19:32] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So, when you’re buying a pose, get on the pose stand. Move the mouse around and notice whether the head moves or not in response to your mouse movements..
[12:19:41] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Any questions so far?
[12:19:48] Ric Lyle: no
[12:19:58] Storm Munforth: good tip, thank you
[12:20:00] Rhonda Pennell: I have one
[12:20:11] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ask away rho 🙂
[12:20:24] Rhonda Pennell: Melanie I was curious as to whether you are using a HUD, or playing the poses manually today
[12:20:33] You: lol
[12:20:33] Lulu Breuer shouts: lol
[12:20:40] Melanie Sautereau shouts: hehe good one 😛
[12:20:53] Melanie Sautereau shouts: well, i always use the same method.. when im at home, or walking a show..
[12:20:58] Rhonda Pennell: and if they are manual and you switch them, do you stop A and start B, or first start B and then stop A?
[12:21:04] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i use my ZHAO for my walk and default pose
[12:21:22] Melanie Sautereau shouts: as you see the pose im using now
[12:21:32] Melanie Sautereau shouts: and i play the poses manually
[12:21:46] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i first start A.. lets say this pose for example
[12:21:59] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i click on “play inworld
[12:22:04] Rhonda Pennell: right
[12:22:33] Melanie Sautereau shouts: then, if i want to play another animation.. i first click on “play in world” again, and then stop the 1st animation
[12:22:42] Melanie Sautereau shouts: but.. i will discuss this later on
[12:22:51] Rhonda Pennell: thank you:)
[12:23:06] Melanie Sautereau: yvw 🙂
[12:23:09] Rhonda Pennell: the reason I asked
[12:23:39] Rhonda Pennell: is that I find that when poses have relatively slow transitions…it is best to start the next pose and give it time to “move into position”, and only then stop the previous pose
[12:23:55] Rhonda Pennell: otherwise there can be odd snapping movements between the two poses
[12:23:59] Melanie Sautereau shouts: yes exactly rho.. and thats one of the reasons why i do that too
[12:23:59] Rhonda Pennell: that has been my experience, anyway
[12:24:10] You decline VASSNIA – LATEST RELEASES! from A group member named VNP Ninetails.
[12:24:16] Melanie Sautereau shouts: There are also poses available for runway which are called “Multi-pose Animations”. These kind of poses go trough a sequence of moves and then stop in a final static position. Let me show you a Multi-Pose Animation
[12:24:30] Melanie Sautereau shouts: lets show you one
[12:24:44] Melanie Sautereau shouts: did you all see the movement or do i have to show again?
[12:24:52] Storm Munforth: one more time
[12:24:52] Rhonda Pennell: again please
[12:24:54] Leena Bianco: saw it
[12:24:54] Wipster Baxter: I saw it
[12:24:55] Onyx Yiwama: yes
[12:24:56] Magnolia Oleander: I saw it
[12:25:03] Rhonda Pennell: ah yes:)
[12:25:07] Storm Munforth: Thank you
[12:25:12] Melanie Sautereau shouts: These kind of poses are accepted to use on the runway by most agencies, but personally I don’t like these kind of animation.
[12:25:17] Lorena Slafford: are they ok to use?
[12:25:29] You: not really
[12:25:29] Lulu Breuer shouts: not really
[12:25:30] Melanie Sautereau shouts: If I want to use two animations at one posing stop on the runway, I use two separate poses and create my own seqence
[12:25:41] Melanie Sautereau shouts: no, the are not preffered
[12:25:52] Terrilynn Carami: I think they usually move too fast and if someone is taking pictures that isn’t good
[12:26:01] Rhonda Pennell: a very good point yes
[12:26:03] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i know one of our supermodels uses these kind of poses… i dont call names.. but it looks very bad
[12:26:13] Lorena Slafford: lol
[12:26:17] Melanie Sautereau shouts: its not natural
[12:26:27] Leah Portland: I’ve seen a top model use an AO in a show
[12:26:30] Rhonda Pennell: it is time to let go of Maitreya *giggles
[12:26:37] You: lol
[12:26:37] Lulu Breuer shouts: lol
[12:26:45] Leah Portland: a mocap runway AO
[12:26:46] Melanie Sautereau shouts: well, maitreya ones are still very good rho
[12:26:51] You: number 19?
[12:26:52] Lulu Breuer shouts: number 19?
[12:26:58] Melanie Sautereau shouts: but… a bit too old maybe
[12:27:02] Rhonda Pennell: this is true, but they have fallen out of favour sadly
[12:27:14] Rhonda Pennell: Leah, the VISTA model AO?
[12:27:19] Melanie Sautereau shouts: yes exactly.. i dont use them anymore, they have been used too much
[12:27:21] Leah Portland: yes
[12:27:24] Leah Portland: the very same
[12:27:33] Terelyn Catronis: The walks are good, not so much the poses
[12:27:33] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ahh yes, dont like that one either
[12:27:36] Leah Portland: I was so shocked to see that used on the runway
[12:27:40] Rhonda Pennell: I have used its animations (not the AO itself) in shows before, though not much
[12:27:47] Melanie Sautereau shouts: sorry, im very honost in my opinion hehe.. i dont want to offend anyone if i do 🙂
[12:27:51] Leah Portland: the actual AO
[12:28:06] Rhonda Pennell: if the timing is right, they work…but using the actual AO would be very bad indeed o.O
[12:28:14] Wipster Baxter: Iv’e used them in one show, the poses separately, because the audience was sitting on all four sides
[12:28:17] You: i have it Leah, but only used it for a video shoot not on the runway
[12:28:17] Lulu Breuer shouts: i have it Leah, but only used it for a video shoot not on the runway
[12:28:19] Wipster Baxter: but only once 🙂
[12:28:27] Rhonda Pennell: the same here Wipster:)
[12:28:41] Leah Portland: amybe it was the animation they used from it though
[12:28:53] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok, so again.. If I want to use two animations at one posing stop on the runway, I use two separate poses and create my own seqence
[12:28:56] Leah Portland: but it was the first time i saw it used
[12:29:06] Melanie Sautereau shouts: its very easy to make your own “routine”
[12:29:20] Melanie Sautereau shouts: This means I select two poses who are almost similiair, only the arm or leg changes a bit.
[12:29:30] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Let me show you again what I mean:
[12:29:42] Melanie Sautereau shouts: pose 1
[12:29:48] Melanie Sautereau shouts: and pose 2
[12:29:53] Rhonda Pennell: lovely!
[12:30:04] Onyx Yiwama: do again please
[12:30:05] Melanie Sautereau shouts: see.. natural, and realisitc i think
[12:30:10] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok, again 🙂
[12:30:17] Melanie Sautereau shouts: pose 1
[12:30:23] Leah Portland: very good
[12:30:26] Melanie Sautereau shouts: and.. pose 2
[12:30:28] Wipster Baxter: yes, very natural and smooth 🙂
[12:30:55] Lorena Slafford: normaly we have a few poses and i feel I want to show as much as the outfit as possible . This small moves are not mcuh different from eachother in what they show of the outfit.
[12:31:03] Melanie Sautereau shouts: sometimes, when you walk a show.. you have to use 2 poses per stop
[12:31:12] Lorena Slafford: of the outfit as possible*
[12:31:14] Melanie Sautereau shouts: this is how you can do it
[12:31:39] Melanie Sautereau shouts: thats right lorena.. but thats why in a show you have more posing stops
[12:31:49] Melanie Sautereau: sometimes a show has 4 posing stops.. of 2 poses per stop
[12:32:15] Melanie Sautereau shouts: so at one stop you can use side poses.. and at the other stop you can use front poses
[12:32:37] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So to summarize, when buying a standing pose for the runway, look for high priority, head locked and slow transition.
[12:32:50] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Get a good supply of single pose animations. Avoid poses and animations made for AO’s.
[12:33:01] Melanie Sautereau shouts: When you’re walking down the runway you can hold CTRL+ALT+CLICK on your chest to centre the eyes in front of you.
[12:33:06] Melanie Sautereau shouts: looks better also 🙂
[12:33:22] You: 🙂
[12:33:22] Lulu Breuer shouts: 🙂
[12:33:28] You: HUD, AOs and Manual Poses:
[12:33:28] Lulu Breuer shouts: HUD, AOs and Manual Poses:
[12:33:38] You: AO stands for Animation Overrider and refers to a HUD that contains animation that are designed to override the default Linden Lab noob poses
[12:33:38] Lulu Breuer shouts: AO stands for Animation Overrider and refers to a HUD that contains animation that are designed to override the default Linden Lab noob poses
[12:33:51] You: One standard type of AO is a ZHAO, but there are others.
[12:33:51] Lulu Breuer shouts: One standard type of AO is a ZHAO, but there are others.
[12:34:02] You: They include stands, walks, swimming, sits and more
[12:34:02] Lulu Breuer shouts: They include stands, walks, swimming, sits and more
[12:34:17] You: AOs are designed to work on their own, meaning they will cycle through stands, and apply sits, walks, flying etc animation automatically
[12:34:17] Lulu Breuer shouts: AOs are designed to work on their own, meaning they will cycle through stands, and apply sits, walks, flying etc animation automatically
[12:34:35] You: You can override these, and set them etc, but in general they are designed to be automated
[12:34:35] Lulu Breuer shouts: You can override these, and set them etc, but in general they are designed to be automated
[12:34:48] Monica Balut: Most AO’s are built upon the ZHAO script
[12:34:49] You: as Mel said, This is great for everyday use but on the runway you need more control and you need to be able to pick specific poses and determine how long the each run etc
[12:34:49] Lulu Breuer shouts: as Mel said, This is great for everyday use but on the runway you need more control and you need to be able to pick specific poses and determine how long the each run etc
[12:34:52] You decline The Fashion Information Center from A group member named Revanna Mistwallow.
[12:34:59] You: yes 🙂
[12:34:59] Lulu Breuer shouts: yes 🙂
[12:35:04] You: hi Monica 🙂
[12:35:04] Lulu Breuer shouts: hi Monica 🙂
[12:35:07] Rhonda Pennell: or the ZHAO-II and derivatives
[12:35:16] Marie29 Button: I use the Huddles easy animator, old school but very effective. With the Zhao as the walk/default. Pick your poses manually and have a pose list by your screen for the best results per outfit and stop.
[12:35:20] Melanie Sautereau: Oh hello Monica 🙂
[12:35:28] Wipster Baxter: hey Monica 🙂
[12:35:30] Monica Balut: Huddles is based on AHAO
[12:35:34] Marie29 Button: Hi Monica
[12:35:34] Monica Balut: ZHAO
[12:35:37] You: HUD is short for “Heads up Display”
and is technically and attachment that sits on your screen
[12:35:37] Lulu Breuer shouts: HUD is short for “Heads up Display”
and is technically and attachment that sits on your screen
[12:35:39] You decline The Fashion Information Center from A group member named Revanna Mistwallow.
[12:35:40] Rhonda Pennell: *smiles at Monica
[12:36:07] You: However we slightly misuses the term to refer to posing HUDs or runway HUDs
[12:36:07] Lulu Breuer shouts: However we slightly misuses the term to refer to posing HUDs or runway HUDs
[12:36:14] Leah Portland: Hi Monica
[12:36:26] You: These HUDs hold our runway poses allowing us to pick specific poses as well as set up posing sequences.
[12:36:26] Lulu Breuer shouts: These HUDs hold our runway poses allowing us to pick specific poses as well as set up posing sequences.
[12:36:38] You: They also typically have a walk overrider so we can also have our runway walks
[12:36:38] Lulu Breuer shouts: They also typically have a walk overrider so we can also have our runway walks
[12:36:51] You: There are also Walk overriders that are stripped down HUDs that just contain walks
[12:36:51] Lulu Breuer shouts: There are also Walk overriders that are stripped down HUDs that just contain walks
[12:37:02] You: Lastly there is “Manual Posing” which refers to opening the animation on your screen and clicking on “Play in World” to have it kick i
[12:37:02] Lulu Breuer shouts: Lastly there is “Manual Posing” which refers to opening the animation on your screen and clicking on “Play in World” to have it kick i
[12:37:07] You: *in
[12:37:07] Lulu Breuer shouts: *in
[12:37:20] You: Both runway HUDs and AOs relay on scripts to trigger your poses, however AO usually have many many more scirpts than posing HUDs, another reason to perfer them to AOs
[12:37:20] Lulu Breuer shouts: Both runway HUDs and AOs relay on scripts to trigger your poses, however AO usually have many many more scirpts than posing HUDs, another reason to perfer them to AOs
[12:37:32] You: the Bault HUD for example uses 3 scripts, while another popular HUD/AO combo uses 13…you do the math
[12:37:32] Lulu Breuer shouts: the Bault HUD for example uses 3 scripts, while another popular HUD/AO combo uses 13…you do the math
[12:37:56] You: When a SIMs have a limited ability to run scripts, in a sim what is full of people that can be reached very quickly
[12:37:56] Lulu Breuer shouts: When a SIMs have a limited ability to run scripts, in a sim what is full of people that can be reached very quickly
[12:38:14] You: This will cause first your AOs to fail, the fewer the scripts the less likely this will happen, although it is true that what the scripts do will also be a factor
[12:38:14] Lulu Breuer shouts: This will cause first your AOs to fail, the fewer the scripts the less likely this will happen, although it is true that what the scripts do will also be a factor
[12:38:26] You: right Monica? lol
[12:38:26] Lulu Breuer shouts: right Monica? lol
[12:38:45] You: So in that regard Manual poses is your best option, and should a minimum be your back up in case of HUD failures
[12:38:45] Lulu Breuer shouts: So in that regard Manual poses is your best option, and should a minimum be your back up in case of HUD failures
[12:38:58] You: Personally I use the Bault HUD and have copies of my poses in my quick-change folders as back-ups
[12:38:58] Lulu Breuer shouts: Personally I use the Bault HUD and have copies of my poses in my quick-change folders as back-ups
[12:39:06] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i think you mean the Balut here Lulu?
[12:39:12] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Balut HUD
[12:39:12] You: lol
[12:39:12] Lulu Breuer shouts: lol
[12:39:14] Rhonda Pennell: *giggles
[12:39:17] You: yes sorry
[12:39:17] Lulu Breuer shouts: yes sorry
[12:39:23] You: can’t type or spell 😛
[12:39:23] Lulu Breuer shouts: can’t type or spell 😛
[12:39:28] Melanie Sautereau shouts: hehe ok.. no worries 😛
[12:39:36] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok thank you Lulu!
[12:39:42] You: anyone what to add anything?
[12:39:42] Lulu Breuer shouts: anyone what to add anything?
[12:39:46] Monica Balut: I’m sorry I was on the phone
[12:39:52] You: oh good
[12:39:52] Lulu Breuer shouts: oh good
[12:40:04] You: you did not hear me misspell your name 🙂
[12:40:04] Lulu Breuer shouts: you did not hear me misspell your name 🙂
[12:40:09] Melanie Sautereau shouts: rofl
[12:40:13] You: hehe
[12:40:13] Lulu Breuer shouts: hehe
[12:40:15] Monica Balut: You’re tigh about scripts
[12:40:15] Wipster Baxter: 🙂
[12:40:18] Monica Balut: right
[12:40:19] Rhonda Pennell: we have not really discussed default poses yet
[12:40:31] You: good point Rho
[12:40:31] Lulu Breuer shouts: good point Rho
[12:40:58] You: there are two methods to have a default pose
[12:40:58] Lulu Breuer shouts: there are two methods to have a default pose
[12:41:08] You: one is to have a pose open and running at all times
[12:41:08] Lulu Breuer shouts: one is to have a pose open and running at all times
[12:41:20] You: the other is to set it with your HUD or AO
[12:41:20] Lulu Breuer shouts: the other is to set it with your HUD or AO
[12:41:37] You: and it is the pose that kick in between poses and before etc
[12:41:37] Lulu Breuer shouts: and it is the pose that kick in between poses and before etc
[12:41:46] You: it should be generic and neutral
[12:41:47] Lulu Breuer shouts: it should be generic and neutral
[12:42:09] You: and ideally priority 3 to make sure that your actuall poses override it
[12:42:09] Lulu Breuer shouts: and ideally priority 3 to make sure that your actuall poses override it
[12:42:31] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i actualy always use a priority 4 default pose
[12:42:39] Leah Portland: same
[12:42:47] Melanie Sautereau shouts: and it always worked.. because i only buy poses with priority 4
[12:42:51] You: I do to sometimes, if I do not have a P3 one
[12:42:51] Lulu Breuer shouts: I do to sometimes, if I do not have a P3 one
[12:43:01] Melanie Sautereau shouts: yes exactly
[12:43:06] Leah Portland: i don’t have any p3s
[12:43:13] Rhonda Pennell: there is one thing I would like to add, if I may:)
[12:43:23] You: i have had a couple pose maker make me p3
[12:43:24] Lulu Breuer shouts: i have had a couple pose maker make me p3
[12:43:33] Melanie Sautereau shouts: sure Rho 🙂
[12:43:35] You: I just asked if i had a p4 i wanted to use
[12:43:35] Lulu Breuer shouts: I just asked if i had a p4 i wanted to use
[12:44:10] Rhonda Pennell: I used to have a default stand in my AO, actually…I have since switched to playing such a pose manually and keeping it active instead during a show
[12:44:14] Monica Balut: Remember the last anim played is the one that overided the others of the same priority
[12:44:29] Rhonda Pennell: the reason was that I realised that the AO was stopping the default pose whenever I started or stopped walking
[12:44:46] Leah Portland: right
[12:44:47] Melanie Sautereau shouts: hmmm.. thats odd Rho
[12:44:51] Rhonda Pennell: so for a very brief moment, I still ended up in a Linden pose with my head falling off until the default pose kicked in again
[12:44:58] Leah Portland: and sometimes makes you noob between poses
[12:45:17] Rhonda Pennell: it would depend on the HUD you use, of course, but a regular AO will stop and re-start the default pose
[12:45:28] Rhonda Pennell: for that reason, I find that having it on manually works much better
[12:45:34] Leah Portland: i use manual running at all times
[12:45:42] Melanie Sautereau shouts: or had an walking animation in your shoe or something?
[12:45:42] Leah Portland: lag cannot makeit fail
[12:45:42] Monica Balut: The Balut HUD automatically starts the default pose for you
[12:45:52] Melanie Sautereau shouts: maybe you had more animations in tha AO Rho?
[12:46:12] Wipster Baxter: I have never had that problem, but then again I only use the Balut HUD
[12:46:20] Rhonda Pennell: I use the standard ZHAO-II, and have a note card specificially for runway work…with twelve walks to choose from, and nothing else
[12:46:33] Rhonda Pennell: I *used* to have a single stand animation for a default pose as well
[12:46:39] Leah Portland: I use a balut walk overrider which is perfect
[12:46:40] Melanie Sautereau shouts: for me either and i only used a simple ZHAO.. still using
[12:46:47] You: yeah i do not have that issue either with the Balut HUD
[12:46:47] Lulu Breuer shouts: yeah i do not have that issue either with the Balut HUD
[12:46:52] Rhonda Pennell: but since the ZHAO-II is not really meant for runway work, it switches between the stand and walk of course
[12:47:23] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok let me continue.. we will talk about default poses latr on
[12:47:28] Melanie Sautereau shouts: 🙂
[12:47:28] Rhonda Pennell: right…Monica’s HUD takes this into account and avoids stopping the default pose, I just wanted to highlight that with a normal AO, this can be an issue
[12:47:37] Rhonda Pennell: sorry I am done rambling:)
[12:47:43] You: good point thanks Rho
[12:47:43] Lulu Breuer shouts: good point thanks Rho
[12:47:45] Leah Portland: hehe Rhnda
[12:47:47] Melanie Sautereau shouts: haha nono Rho.. thank you for sharing your experiences
[12:47:52] Rhonda Pennell: 🙂
[12:47:58] You: about the AO not the rambling lol
[12:47:58] Lulu Breuer shouts: about the AO not the rambling lol
[12:48:04] Melanie Sautereau shouts: While you’re spending your free time with your friends or shopping, you can use your AO. Although I always use just one walk and one or two poses while I’m just “standing” somewhere.
[12:48:13] Lulu Breuer removes foot from mouth
[12:48:13] Lulu Breuer removes foot from mouth
[12:48:21] Rhonda Pennell: *laughs
[12:48:21] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Remember that poses expresses your feelings, they communicate our mood and level of confidence. Like i explained earlier. When i see an avatar which is moving constantly, it’s very annoying and not very natural in my opinion.
[12:48:42] Melanie Sautereau shouts: In RL you would never see a person move that much when she/he is just standing. Except when that person in very nervous, lol. I would prefer an AO which only makes slight changes in the arms or legs, like I showed you earlier.
[12:49:02] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Besides that this looks more natural, it also looks more professional as a model.
[12:49:16] Melanie Sautereau shouts: because.. once you are a model.. you also have to be a model in your free time 🙂
[12:49:26] Leah Portland: so true
[12:49:29] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Ok, for the runway there are still models who uses an AO. If you do so, my advice is to change into Manual Posing. If you haven’t walked a show yet, please listen carefully to what I say and start directly with manual posing.
[12:49:30] Rhonda Pennell: absolutely
[12:49:50] Melanie Sautereau shouts: This subject is very detailed and we will discuss that in our future workshops, but when you’re walking a Fashion Show there will be much LAG. LAG is simply said a “slow reaction time” when using SL.
[12:50:07] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Because of the LAG, many things can crash.. even yourself. I’m sure that all happened to you 😉 LAG can also freeze your AO. And that’s not what you want when you’re walking a Fashion Show.
[12:50:15] Rhonda Pennell: LAG…an acronym for Lots of AGony
[12:50:19] Melanie Sautereau shouts: If you’re AO/HUD fails, you’ll look like a newbie and that’s not really flattering.
[12:50:22] Melanie Sautereau: LOL Rho 😛
[12:50:24] You: lol
[12:50:25] Lulu Breuer shouts: lol
[12:50:33] Leena Bianco: 🙂
[12:50:34] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Of course, LAG can also freeze your Manual Poses. But, that will be the last thing that freezes. First your AO, then your HUD and finally your Manual Poses.
[12:50:52] Melanie Sautereau shouts: I have walked in many fashion shows. I’ve been in Miss Virtual World last year which had the biggest lag i ever saw..
[12:51:02] Melanie Sautereau shouts: But my manual poses still didn’t crash. There was only a little delay, when I played my pose it took about 5 sec before it actually played. But that’s all.
[12:51:19] Melanie Sautereau shouts: I always use manual posing. This is what i do when I’m walking a show:
[12:51:34] Melanie Sautereau shouts: I use my AO ONLY for my walk and default pose. A default pose is the pose you want to return to when you stop the animation (the runway pose)
[12:51:53] Melanie Sautereau shouts: I choose the poses i want to use for the show and drag them into the clothing folder.
[12:52:02] Melanie Sautereau shouts: i include them ina special folder called “poses”
[12:52:12] Melanie Sautereau shouts: I also include the walk, so if my AO crashes I always will have a back-up.
[12:52:23] Melanie Sautereau shouts: I rename the poses, like
[12:52:30] Melanie Sautereau shouts: 1. Manifeste – Model076
2. SP_Ambition
3. Di’s Opera Silent1
etc.
[12:52:40] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So i actually only place a number in front of the original name of the pose, so i know the order to play for my animations.
[12:53:19] Melanie Sautereau shouts: So that’s all I do actually. Remember that it needs a bit of practice before you can use this method smooth and easily. It’s a bit harder then posing with an AO.
[12:53:26] Monica Balut: Interesting Melanie. I come from the opposite spectrum. I have never posed manually.
[12:53:37] Melanie Sautereau shouts: But, it’s very important as a model to learn how to use poses manually.
[12:53:47] Leah Portland: Mel taught me so I use manual
[12:53:51] Melanie Sautereau shouts: yes monica.. it sounds a bit scary maybe
[12:54:05] Monica Balut: I’ve never had a problem
[12:54:08] You: I use my HUD and have manual as back up
[12:54:08] Lulu Breuer shouts: I use my HUD and have manual as back up
[12:54:22] Melanie Sautereau shouts: well.. it happends so often a model looks like a noob on the runway
[12:54:40] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ive seen it so often.. and thats only because the model doesnt has a back-up
[12:54:40] Leah Portland: I always used a huddle before and was afraid of manual

[12:55:04] Leah Portland: and then Mel taught me and I have never gne back
[12:55:16] Melanie Sautereau shouts: and its so much easier. you dont have to drag your poses into your AO.. add the poses to the Notecard, etc
[12:55:25] Melanie Sautereau shouts: well thank you for telling Lah 🙂
[12:55:31] Rhonda Pennell: I ended up using manual poses because I have not found a HUD that can manage the huge amount of poses I have:) (to my own shame, I still have not tested the Balut HUD yet)
[12:55:32] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Leah*
[12:55:54] Melanie Sautereau shouts: well, you have to find your own way which you feel is comfortable
[12:55:57] Leah Portland: yvw Mel
[12:55:58] Arlene Islay: I use the Balut and I love it
[12:56:03] Melanie Sautereau shouts: but ALWAYS have a back-up
[12:56:10] Monica Balut: I have over 1000 poses loaded in mine
[12:56:17] Leah Portland: woooow
[12:56:36] Wipster Baxter: I always have back up poses ready, but the Balut HUD has never let me down
[12:56:40] Rhonda Pennell: that is good to know…every HUD I ever used froze if I added more than about 200 to it
[12:56:57] Melanie Sautereau shouts: Im sure the Balut hud works perfectly
[12:56:58] Wipster Baxter: only once did it now work, but neither did manual poses as the LAG was baaaaad
[12:57:06] Melanie Sautereau shouts: but even the bst creator cannot help the lag
[12:57:09] Wipster Baxter: *not
[12:57:16] Melanie Sautereau shouts: or sim traffic, which makes the AO freeze
[12:57:26] Monica Balut: But good point about learning to do it manually
[12:57:34] Melanie Sautereau shouts: remember.. manual poses are the last things tha crashes or freezes
[12:57:54] Wipster Baxter: yes, I will have to learn to do it manually soon LOL
[12:58:00] Melanie Sautereau shouts: ok.. now lulu wants to add some important things
[12:58:11] Lulu Breuer giggles
[12:58:11] Lulu Breuer giggles

[12:59:33] Melanie Sautereau: hahaha Monica 😛 would be nice to have you there
[12:59:33] You: even if you shave, do not use poses that raise your arms and show your armpits to the audience.
[12:59:33] Lulu Breuer shouts: even if you shave, do not use poses that raise your arms and show your armpits to the audience.
[12:59:34] Lorena Slafford: smiles

[13:00:45] Melanie Sautereau: good point leah 😛
[13:00:47] You: yeah I have seen it too….
[13:00:47] Lulu Breuer shouts: yeah I have seen it too….
[13:00:58] Monica Balut: So why do we need to avoid it?
[13:01:13] Magnolia Oleander: It stretches the texture
[13:01:14] Melanie Sautereau: we have to make sure what an armpit pose is actually
[13:01:17] Magnolia Oleander: and can distort
[13:01:26] Monica Balut: I’ve heard it said it’s because it distorts the AV
[13:01:30] Rhonda Pennell: yes why are armpit poses so much disliked, and what if the armpits are covered by the outfit?
[13:01:33] Melanie Sautereau shouts: all poses can disort the outfit if youre not carefull
[13:01:46] You: exactly
[13:01:46] Lulu Breuer shouts: exactly
[13:01:58] You: and your prims can move in weird ways

[13:02:04] Melanie Sautereau shouts: you see this pose? what do you think about this pose?
[13:02:14] You: and from a lower angle if can look odd

[13:02:26] Monica Balut: That one is fine & looks natural
[13:02:29] Wipster Baxter: ohhh
[13:02:32] Leena Bianco: stretches the fabric across your chest
[13:02:33] Ric Lyle: looks good to me
[13:02:37] Rhonda Pennell: a good point…Melanie’s pose looks fine, but the arms are going right through the chest prim which looks strange
[13:02:46] You: see the prim?
[13:02:46] Lulu Breuer shouts: see the prim?
[13:02:46] Melanie Sautereau shouts: yes, but not for this outfit obviiously..
